General information about the scholarship program
Seeking to travel and study in Malta? Having it in your bucket list to visit Malta? Here’s a chance to not just visit Malta, but to also bag a degree before leaving the awesome place. The Malta Scientific Research student grant is currently open for applications. The University of Malta Scientific Research Scholarships is aimed at students from non-European Union countries interested in pursuing their postgraduate education. Candidates can apply for the scholarship after being accepted to the University of Malta’s Master’s or Doctorate program.
The scholarships are for the Master of Scientific Research or PhD at the University of Malta.
Institute of Digital Games is a leader in graduate education in the area of video games (including artificial intelligence). The recent evaluation of The Princeton Review in 2021 ranks our master’s and doctoral program among the top 25 in the world (# 22). The emphasis on scientific research on video games and technology is demonstrated in our ranking in terms of activities and publications where we rank 8th.

What is the scholarship worth?
Selected applicants under this Malta Scientific Research student grant will receive financial support of up to $13,500 annually.
Requirements to apply for the scholarship
1. The language of instruction is English and all candidates need to be fluent (a minimum of 6.5 on the TOEFL test).
2. They must be accepted to the Master / PhD program before applying for the scholarship.
3. The Institute is multidisciplinary, so students can enter from a wide variety of areas.
Application and necessary documents
Before applying for the Malta Scientific Research student grant, students must be accepted into the University program.
For the Institute of Digital Games, you need:

4. English level test – (IELTS 6.5)
Application Deadline
The closing date is May 30, 2021 at 2:00 PM (Malta time). The applications close the same date. There is a date for late applications on July 22 at 2:00 p.m. We recommend that students interested in the Malta Scientific Research student grant complete the application as soon as possible to ensure that they can evaluate the scholarship application and those embassies and authorities have the necessary time to process travel and study documents.
